

That's why in 1964, it was finally assigned to the genus still known.


In 1905 it was reassigned to the genus Streptospondylus, which had been described by Owen in 1842, on the basis of a single vertebra now lost. Discovered in 1870, it was assigned to the genus Megalosaurus. Its taxonomic history has long been confusing. Eustreptospondylus ("true turned vertebra") was a megalosaurid dinosaur that lived in England in the Late Jurassic, 163-154 million years ago.
